Becoming a Community Ambassador

Komen Greater Iowa strives to engage dedicated and energetic volunteers to help us achieve our vision of a world without breast cancer. Empower your community today by joining the Komen Greater Iowa family as a Community Ambassador, and help us get one step closer to achieving our Big Bold Goal of reducing the breast cancer mortality rate by 50% by 2026!

What is an Ambassador?

Community Ambassadors represent Komen Greater Iowa on a voluntary basis with the purpose of raising awareness about breast health and breast cancer services. An Ambassador will help to forge meaningful relationships and partnerships, and promote the work of Komen throughout the community at various events in schools, neighborhoods, businesses, churches, etc.

Why become an Ambassador?

One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

As a diplomat representing Komen Greater Iowa you will empower communities with breast cancer education, opportunities, and hope. You have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others by educating people about breast cancer through presentations, distributing educational materials and sharing your personal story. Your ambassadorship is crucial to spreading awareness and advancing our mission.

Responsibilities and Expectations of an Ambassador:

  • Attend an initial one-hour, in-person, training session – Breast Cancer & Komen Greater Iowa Overview.
  • Fill health speaker and table requests within the Komen Greater Iowa service area.
  • Raise awareness of breast health, breast cancer and Komen Greater Iowa in the community.
  • Serve a minimum of 4 events throughout the year.

If you have questions about the Community Ambassador program or would like to RSVP for a training listed above, please email our Executive Director, Sherry Fuller at  or call 515.330.2935
