The Keeping Promises dinner is designed to inform attendees of the research being done through the Komen Scholars Network. This event will highlight how funds from Komen Greater Iowa are used not only in our communities, but to also support research related to treatment, prevention and finding a cure for breast cancer.

Our featured guests are Danny Welch and Yogesh Shah.

Danny Welch, PhD, Komen Scholar

joins us in the fight against against metastic breast cancer. Dr. Welch’s work is focused on discovering the genes that cause breast cancer cells to metastasize or spread. Danny Welch is an American Cancer Biologist and founding director of the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Department of Cancer Biology.

Yogesh Shah, MPH, MD, FAAFP, Founding Director, Palliative Care, Broadlawns Medical Center

Dr. Shah is a geriatrician and director of Palliative Care at Broadlawns Medical Center. He works to increase awareness and reduce barriers to access palliative care and quality of life services. Dr. Shah is a long-time global advocate for specialized medical care for those living with serious and life threatening illness.
