Susan G. Komen Greater Iowa is a resource for women who need breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support services. Through annual events including the Race for the Cure and individual contributions, Komen Greater Iowa raises funds that enable women to detect and survive breast cancer. We offer two different grant programs: Community Grants and Small Grants.
- The Community Grants Program solicits applications each fall for projects that target services, not otherwise available, to the medically underserved populations of our ninety-one county service area.
- The Small Grants Program offers grants up to $5,000 for projects within our ninety-one county service area in the areas that address the goals of Susan G. Komen: breast health education, improving access to the continuum of care, and improving the quality of life for breast cancer patients and survivors.
The grant application process is competitive. Whether or not an organization has received a grant in the past, funding in subsequent years is never guaranteed and depends upon the quality of this application, the quality of the applicant pool, and the funds available for distribution.
Seventy-five percent of all funds raised by the Affiliate stay in our service area to fund breast health programs for women who would not otherwise have access to screening and treatment. Twenty-five percent of funds raised supports the national Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program. Komen Greater Iowa has raised more than $5 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our ninety-one county service area.
